On December 16, 1960, The New York Air Disaster involving a mid-air collision betwen two airliners took place over Staten Island, with plane crashing into Staten Island and the other in Park Slope, Brooklyn. The crash killed 128 people between the two aircrafts as well as 6 people on the ground.
United Airlines Flight 826 was en route from O’ Hare Airport, Chicago, IL to Idlewild International Airport in New York. Trans World Airlines Flight 266 was en route from Dayton and Columbus, OH to LaGuardia Airpot in New York.
Ironically, the plane that crashed into Park Slope, crashed into the Pillar Of Fire Church, The McCaddin Fumeral home, a chinese laundry mat and it also set fire to 10 brownstones.
