The name of this program is called “Scared Straight.” The program was based on literally scaring young juvenile offenders about the realities of prison life. Many of the juvenile offenders shown here are repeat offenders ranging in crimes such as petty theft, random acts of voilence/ fighting, drug sales and arson.
The inmates that were used for the program call themselves the “lifers group,” as all of them are serving sentences from 25 years or greater. This all takes place at Rahway State Prison in New Jersey in the late 1970’s when the prison was considered one of the worst prison’s on the East Coast.
So, for all of you kids out there that think crime pays…, think again! Just listen to what these inmates have to say. Prison is no joke!
Damn sure I never want to end up there.
