Text 9 Jan Nobody’s Safe

What’s your reaction when you hear of rappers carrying guns?  What about when you heard Mobb Deep’s “Prodigy” getting slapped with a 3 1/2 year prison sentece for possession of a gun?  Or even T.I.’s enormous cache of firearms in which he only serve 7 months of a 1 year sentence!

None of us even blinked an eye about those guys.

However, there’s something rather strange when NBA players and other athletes have to resort to such actions.  Athletes have so much to do deal and it’s hard for people to understand that.  We can all remember the incident involving Ron Artest and a fan in which Artest was hit with a season suspension and stiff fines for scrapping with the fan that threw a drink at him and yelled obscenities at him.  Or what about when Latrell Sprewell choked out his coach P.J. Carlesimo.

All of the above warranted serious and swift action on the part of the NBA.

But now, the league is faced with gun toting slam dunkers.

At the forefront of this is none other than Washington Wizard’s guard Gilbert Arenas.  Apparently, Mr. Arenas kept unloaded gun(s) in his locker at the Verizon Center in attempt to keep them out of harm’s reach at his home.  However, if that’s the case, why did he brandish the gun to another teammate when they had a dispute over a past gambling debt.  To make matters worse, in a pregame introduction before facing the Philadelphia 76’ers, Arenas pretended to shoot his teammates with guns made with his fingers.

Well, that’s the straw that broke the camels back and NBA Commissioner David Stern took action by suspended Arenas indefinitely.  The commissioner had this to say, “his ongoing conduct has led me to conclude that he is not currently fit to take the court in an NBA game.”
